Shape sorter

I walked into the playroom and caught Reuben with his shape sorter (the one my sister Geraldine bought him when she came to visit), masterfully putting the shapes in the right holes, signing the colours as he went. (I took these shots quickly so they're a little shaky). How lovely to watch Reuben in action and think back to the days when we would work with him to achieve this lovely milestone. For me, anything Reuben does with his hands is utterly magical. It's always felt like an act of defiance against his gorgeous hands having been tied down for 4 months of intubation; they cry "Look what I can do!.. Look at how I form my signs!...Look how long my nails are getting!"
